LEGACY
In 1950, the Sports Car Club of America established the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance as a companion to the Pebble Beach Road Race, a motorsports competition held on a circuit of closed public roads. The Beach Club, a private club close to the Del Monte Lodge (now known as “The Lodge at Pebble Beach”), was the site of the 1950 and 1951 Concours. There was a practice tee and driving range there. On November 4, 1950, thirty automobiles were on display; on May 27, 1951, a smaller field of 23 vehicles was present. The event was moved in 1952 to the Pebble Beach Golf Links’ 18th green, which is situated between the Lodge at Pebble Beach and the Pacific Ocean and has views of Carmel Bay.
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has continued since 1950 with one missed year: in 1960, the event was postponed owing to scheduling issues. In 2001, a new category for preservation automobiles was added to the event. The so-called barn finds automobile falls under this category, which was created to “bear witness to the passage of time”. In 2006, 175 vehicles from 27 states and 13 nations (including the United States) lined the 18th green hole of the Pebble Beach Golf Links with 25 judged classes. In 2009, the Pebble Beach Concours featured vintage motorcycles for the first time with the theme of pre-1959 British Motorcycles.

The 2023 edition of Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will be held on August 20. It is the 72nd Pebble Beach Concours.
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has been honoring key events in automotive history with exhibits of some of the most important cars in the world for more than seven decades.
The 2023 edition of Pebble Beach will comprise nine featured classes: Post-War Luxury, American Dream Cars of the 1950s, Vanderbilt Cup Era Race Cars, 75 Years of Porsche, Figoni Centennial, Pegaso, McLaren 60th Anniversary, Lamborghini 60th Anniversary and Mercedes-Benz S Series.
