Mahindra built & exported many cars in the 90’s that never came to India. Back then, they were superior to the Indian versions in terms of equipment and the quality. Below are some of the examples that can be had in their original forms as the base vehicle thankfully were sold in abundance in India.

    The CL340DP based Classic/Stockman/ Bushranger

Known for its butch looks & off-roading capability, Mahindra CJ340 was sold in select international markets which includes Europe and Australia. Square lamps were introduced to give it a different identity. The 9-slat grill was unique to these Mahindra’s in Europe while Australia retained 7-slat grill with round head lamps. The 2.1litre 62hp Peugeot diesel engine, chunky off-road tries with white wheel disc, 5.38 axle ratio along with 4wd meant no one messes with it off the beaten path. Australian versions had an option of extended range fuel tank, heater and a demister.

Mahindra Bahia / Indian Brave/ Indian Chief

Exported to Belgium & other European countries including the UK, Bahia/ Indian Brave was offered in 91inch wheelbase option. Based on the CJ4, this variant was offered in both petrol and diesel variants and with a locally sourced hardtop as an option. Power to this beast came through 2.1liter 62hp diesel engine or through a locally sourced 2.5 litre petrol engine. Square lamps, 7/9 slat grill depending upon the country being exported, off-road wheels with painted pressed steel disc gave it a much-sophisticated look which otherwise was a utilitarian design.

    Fancy the models above?

For those of you who fancy the models above, the folks at CLcompany can have them ready for you in its original spec and paint scheme. All that one needs to do is to order for the model at CL Company’s website and they would get in touch with you to tailor make the build as per your requirements. For eg. While the above models did not have essentials like the power steering and A/C, these can be retrofitted to help make these vehicles a daily runner if the need be. What you can be assured about is an authentic build that reminisce the past which is unlike anything else on the road.
