How to save & plan for that dream road trip

Pandemic has forced us to look for opportunities within. For those who wish to have a good time on the road, do not wait for the right time, place, and opportunity. They constantly create opportunities for themselves. Social media has created such unreasonable pressure on all of us that we have stopped thinking that the best of the joy can be had with the smallest of things. The definition of a dream itself has changed to something that can only be big, arduous, and difficult to achieve stuff. Dreams can be small and achievable too. Plan for a dream road trip.

So when I say, a dream road trip, it may not necessarily mean, Alaska to Argentina, pan Africa, or a Europe trip. It can be much smaller in scale yet have a far higher value to self. The following is the beginner’s guide to beginning simple yet strong –

    Having a goal-

Goal setting is the first step to achieve great things. One must know what to work for to channelize energies. Try planning a road trip to a close-by city or to that coast that you always wanted to take. Have a fix on the money & time needed to achieve that goal.

    Saving up-

It’s a misnomer that in order to be able to go on a long road trip, one needs to be rich, single and one need not be accountable at work. It all boils down to how much one can save up for that trip and not necessarily how much does one earns and get a pay rise. It’s the choices of life that determine the capacity to travel for a long period of time. The following are the few money-saving tips for a road tripper-

    • Distinguish between must-have and nice to have spent in life.
    • Make savings & investment a daily habit and not a monthly or a yearly habit
    • Employ a financial advisor. Invest in money multiplying financial instruments for greater returns.
    • Reduce monthly outflow on things like rent, electricity, household expenses, etc.
    • Achieve a healthy balance between reasonable living and living in abject poverty for future gratification.

    Going all out-

Once the financial goal is achieved, a careful road trip plan should be chartered. The lesser the daily spends on-road travel, the longer one will be able to spend time on the road. From having a conscious choice over having a meal at a fancy restaurant to staying in luxury hotels, to taking unplanned detours without proper research can all hamper the travel plans. Living a slow-paced life, soaking in the local flavor, and looking for experiences that are natural and not paid for can take a long way in having a trip of a lifetime!
